Stay True

I know that I have been posting all these videos and crazy things about this company called 1st Phorm because I entered this 1st Phorm athlete search competition...but let me tell you what I am learning about this company.

“It's that crazy vision of what you truly aspire to be in life that recurs over and over and over again. The courage one must possess to go after that dream is what sets extraordinary people apart from everyone else.”

These are the first two sentences you read when you go to the 1st Phorm website and click on who we are.

The more 1st Phorm videos I watch, people I follow, and stories I read, I keep hearing a little voice in my head saying it is time. It’s time to let people see who I am.

Years ago, maybe somewhere around 2010’s, I was struggling in the engineering world. I started to realize that I am not like everyone else, but then I am in an office setting. How do I balance who I truly am and being in the working world?

I spoke to HR about my struggles and I was given some pretty awful advice. Want to know what that was?

“When you pull into that parking lot at work and before you open the door to the office building you become office Kelly and leave personal Kelly outside. She compared it to a fish bowl. When you enter the office it is like you are entering your fish bowl where you become your office personality.”

As much as I honestly believe that there is a time and place for things and certain personalities but not sharing who you truly are to your co-workers and the people around you. The people you spend so much of your time with. Ugh.

I stayed with the company until Dec 2014, trying to hide who I was and being someone I was not.

I am not like everyone else and I don’t want to be, and I am not going to be.

Have a vision and stay true to it.

Picture is of me stamping my first engineering drawing.
